Orange County Corrections is seeking highly qualified individuals to fill Correctional Lieutenant positions. Correctional Lieutenants are responsible for directing the operations of the correctional facility. This position assumes command of and exercises leadership over assigned Correctional personnel.

This position reports to a Captain.

Job Description

General Functions

The following job description covered job code 2763 Correctional Lieutenant 84 and 2764 Correctional Lieutenant 80

Under the supervision of the Correctional Captain or Major of Correctional Facility, directs the operations of the correctional facility and the assigned employees. Assumes command of and exercises leadership over Correctional personnel. Work is reviewed through conferences, records, reports and results achieved.

Representative Duties/Assignment

  • Exercises broad supervisory authority over inmates and correctional personnel. Assigns work to Sergeants and occasionally to Corporals.
  • Participates in the selection process for Correctional Sergeants and Corporals.
  • Trains and coaches staff. Responsible for disciplinary action on staff up to a written reprimand and makes recommendations to senior management for more severe levels.
  • Prepares performance evaluations for Sergeants and occasionally for Corporals and/or reviews performance evaluations of Corporals and Correctional Officers.
  • Supervises preparation of required administrative records and reports, and participates in the development of annual budgets.
  • Assumes command of the facility in the absence of the Captain.
  • Investigates unusual conditions and events.
  • Plans and supervises on-the-job and emergency plans and procedures training.
  • Plans, organizes and completes work assignments in an efficient, effective manner.
  • Trains shift supervisors to assume the duties and responsibilities of this position on a temporary or emergency basis.
  • Conducts daily inspections of the facility.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate¿s degree or equivalent sixty credit hours towards a degree from an accredited institution.
  • Six years of experience in a certified corrections position providing oversight of detained inmates under confinement, to include providing care, custody, and general welfare within a detention type environment.
  • Four of the six years of experience must have been in a supervisory capacity and two of the four years as a Correctional Sergeant, equivalent or higher rank.
  • Meet requirements and standards of the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission as authorized by F.S.S. 943.13
  • Must possess and maintain State of Florida Correctional Officer certification within first year of employment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E driver¿s license.

Preferences

Experience supervising daily operations within a correctional facility ensuring a safe and secure environment for inmates, staff and visitors in accordance with federal, state and county laws and ordinances and agency directives.

Salary Information

Pay Grade: 520 - From $36.56 to $46.28
