New Home Star

Job Requirements

Build solutions. Elevate performance. Thrive in Corporate at New Home Star!

New Home Star is the largest privately owned seller of new homes in America. As a member of our HR team, you’ll support both our Corporate Support Office and our home builder partners—helping them sell more homes, more profitably.

New Home Star is hiring a Director of Recruiting to lead and elevate our national talent acquisition function. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring direct ownership of senior-level and hard-to-fill searches while building the infrastructure, standards, and team capability needed to scale proactive headhunting across multiple builder partnerships nationwide.

Our Corporate Support Office is located in the heart of downtown Elmhurst and is not your typical “corporate” setting. We embrace collaboration with an open office concept and genuinely enjoy team outings, celebrations, and company-wide events. For candidates based in the Chicagoland area, this role includes weekly in-person collaboration at our Elmhurst office. Candidates based outside the region will travel to Elmhurst periodically throughout the year to connect with leadership, engage with the team, and participate in key company events. Our culture is fun, ambitious, and highly motivated to succeed, creating a supportive environment where you can grow professionally and pursue long-term career aspirations.

Why New Home Star?

Industry Leader: The largest privately owned new home sales company in the U.S., partnering with market-leading home builders.

Real Growth: Dedicated mentorship, a professional development budget, and meaningful opportunities to expand your scope, influence, and career trajectory as the organization continues to grow.

Hybrid flexibility: A flexible hybrid schedule that supports strategic in-office collaboration while providing the autonomy needed for focused, high-impact leadership work.

Award-Winning Culture: Supportive, high-energy team with leadership dedicated to your success, recognized in 2025 as the Best Place to Work in Real Estate and Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work.

Compensation & Benefits: Competitive base salary of $85,000–$115,000, based on experience and qualifications, plus annual performance bonus. Comprehensive benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, and more.

Volunteer Opportunities: Encouraged time and financial resources to give back to your local community in meaningful ways.

What This Role Owns

Player-Coach Mandate: You are first and foremost a hands-on search leader who will personally drive executive and senior-level recruiting while building proactive talent pipelines across the organization.

In this role, you will

  • Personally lead executive and senior-level searches (VPs, Directors, high-impact roles).
  • Conduct market mapping and competitor intelligence.
  • Build passive pipelines across markets.
  • Close complex offers in competitive environments.
  • Serve as a trusted search partner to executive leadership.

Recruiting Function Transformation: You will redesign and upgrade our recruiting function — assessing current capability, raising the bar, and building a proactive headhunting culture rooted in accountability and measurable outcomes.

In this role, you will

  • Evaluate current recruiter capability and performance.
  • Determine who can develop into proactive headhunters.
  • Redefine recruiter expectations around outbound sourcing.
  • Implement performance standards tied to quality-of-hire and retention.
  • Build a culture of accountability and proactive talent acquisition.

Multi-Builder Partnership Complexity: New Home Star operates across multiple national and regional builder partnerships, each with distinct compensation models, market dynamics, sales velocity, cultural expectations, and leadership structures. This complexity is a competitive advantage — and a leadership challenge.

In this role, you will

  • Recruit effectively across varying builder environments.
  • Understand local market talent landscapes.
  • Adapt sourcing strategies by region.
  • Balance builder expectations with NHS standards.

Phenom & Recruiting Technology Ownership: You recognize that recruiting technology is a strategic growth lever, not just support, and assume full ownership from day one to drive innovation and impact.

In this role, you will

  • Own complete optimization and enterprise adoption of the Phenom ATS.
  • Align and integrate ATS workflows across systems to ensure data integrity and operational efficiency.
  • Design and implement AI-driven sourcing and automation strategies to elevate recruiter productivity.
  • Establish and maintain accurate reporting, dashboards, and recruiting analytics.
  • Refine and standardize structured interview frameworks and assessment methodologies.
  • Elevate and continuously improve the end-to-end candidate experience.

Strategic Talent Planning: You will establish a disciplined, KPI-driven talent planning strategy that strengthens hiring predictability, improves retention, and elevates recruiting as a measurable business driver.

In this role, you will

  • Develop a multi-year recruiting roadmap.
  • Forecast hiring needs with Sales and Operations leadership.
  • Create enterprise recruiting KPIs.
  • Drive improvements in:
  • Time-to-fill
  • Offer acceptance rate
  • First-year retention
  • Cost-per-hire
  • Hiring manager satisfaction

What Success Looks Like

Within 12-18 Months

  • Phenom is fully optimized and driving the pipeline.
  • Time-to-fill decreases.
  • First-year attrition declines.
  • Builder partner satisfaction improves.
  • Recruiting is viewed as a strategic function, not an administrative one.

What We’re Looking For

  • 8–12+ years progressive recruiting experience.
  • Proven executive search capability.
  • Experience leading and upgrading recruiting teams.
  • Experience building scalable recruiting systems.
  • Strong executive presence.
  • Comfortable making difficult talent decisions.
  • Multi-state, multi-market hiring exposure.
  • Proficient in Enterprise ATS platforms, LinkedIn Recruiter, advanced Boolean search techniques, CRM systems, Excel/Google Sheets. Tableau/Power BI, and AI-driven tools are a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher preferred.
  • Experience in high-growth or sales-driven organizations preferred.
  • Chicagoland-based candidates will work in-person at our Elmhurst, IL corporate office once per week for collaboration with leadership and the recruiting team, and can also expect periodic travel for leadership seminars and company events. Candidates based outside the region will travel to Elmhurst periodically throughout the year to engage with the team and corporate office culture, in addition to attending leadership seminars and other company events as needed.
  • Real estate, homebuilding, or commission-based sales recruiting experience is a plus, but not mandatory.
