Job Summary and Qualifications

The Infection Prevention Coordinator is responsible for the implementation and ongoing monitoring of the infection prevention and control programs for healthcare system/facility. Implementation is accomplished through performing surveillance, consultation and education regarding prevention and control activities under the direction of the infection prevention director or manager and the physician epidemiologist. The Infection Prevention coordinator serves as an internal consultant in regards to data collection, analysis, reporting and team facilitation in relation to improving patient outcomes related to health care associated infections and infectious diseases. The Infection Prevention Coordinator is responsible for coordination, facilitation and leadership of infection prevention and control activities related to patient and health care worker safety and quality/performance improvement initiatives.

What you will do in this role

  • Incorporates into practice effective activities that are specific to the practice setting, the population served and the continuum of care.
  • Uses a systematic approach to monitor the effectiveness of prevention and control strategies that are consistent with the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Applies epidemiologic principles and statistical methods, including risk stratification and benchmarking, to identify target populations, determine risk factors, design prevention and control strategies, analyze trends, and evaluate processes.
  • Serves as an educator and educational resource for health care providers, ancillary staff, patients, families, and the general public.
  • Provides knowledge and guidance in infection prevention, control, and epidemiology.
  • Collaborates with employee occupational health in the development of strategies that address the risk of disease transmission to health care providers and ancillary staff.
  • Serves in emergency preparedness and response activities as it relates to infection prevention and control.
  • Systematically evaluates the effectiveness of the infection prevention and control programs appropriate to the practice setting.
  • Functions as an integral part of performance improvement initiatives to promote positive patient and employee outcomes.
  • Acquires and maintains current knowledge and skills in the area of infection prevention, control, and epidemiology.

What qualifications you will need

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of Nursing, clinical laboratory science, or Master’s Degree in Public Health, Health Sciences or Epidemiology.
  • Current state professional license as required by profession or certification/registration as required by field of practice. If RN compact license held, active FL RN license required within 90 days of hire.
  • RN: 2 years clinical nursing experience required.
  • If not an RN, must have acute care hospital or Infection Control experience.
  • Active participation in facility clinical improvement activities
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) highly desirable (or certify when eligible).
