Job Summary

As a Selector, you play a crucial role in ensuring products are picked efficiently and accurately to build pallets for our clubs. Our perishable distribution centers maintain temperatures ranging from 30 degrees in the cooler to -20 degrees in the freezer. You will typically lift between 50-100 lbs of product while operating powered equipment such as forklifts and reach trucks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Select damage-free products accurately and efficiently to build pallets according to customer specifications.
  • Verify products against pick tickets and case labels, and turn in accurate paperwork.
  • Maintain productivity levels at a 100% standard.
  • Ensure accuracy levels at a 99.9% standard.
  • Check the condition of pallets and replace them as needed.
  • Report any damage or inventory discrepancies to a supervisor promptly.
  • Maintain cleanliness and repair of dock and facility areas.
  • Assist in ensuring pallets are wrapped and securely stacked for safe transport.
  • Safely operate Material Handling Equipment after training.
  • Adhere to food safety, housekeeping, and other applicable standards.
  • Ensure regular and consistent attendance.
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; college coursework or relevant experience preferred.
  • Previous warehouse experience is desirable.
  • Experience operating Material Handling Equipment is a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize requests from multiple sources.
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Basic math skills for verifying pallet heights and counts.
  • Willingness to use a headset selection system for directions.
  • Flexibility to accommodate various work schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Environmental Job Conditions

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs frequently and 100 lbs occasionally.
  • Sitting, standing, walking, bending, and squatting regularly in a refrigerated warehouse environment.
  • Grasping, reaching, pushing, or pulling items frequently (such as boxes or hand trucks).
  • Building pallets up to 6 feet tall with case weights up to 50 lbs.
  • Endurance for continuous, fast-paced work is essential.
  • Working in fluctuating temperatures within the perishable distribution center, including conditions as cold as -20 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Wearing appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for the job, such as steel-toed footwear and safety gear.
  • Potential exposure to food allergens (such as fish, shellfish, peanuts, etc.).
  • Safely utilizing job-related equipment (such as computers, handheld trackers, and pallet jacks) after training.

In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. At BJ's Wholesale Club, we consider various non-discriminatory factors when determining salary, including location, education, experience, and qualifications. The pay for this position starts at $20.00.
