Legal Administrative Assistant
AppleOnePosition Overview
We are seeking a highly organized legal assistant with experience in medical malpractice defense litigation to support our attorneys in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in defense litigation, particularly in casualty and healthcare matters, and be adept at handling complex administrative and legal support tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Perform secretarial and clerical duties with attention to detail and accuracy.
Open mail for attorney and log time on time sheet as necessary.
Enter attorney time sheets into computer daily.
Answer telephone, providing non-legal information when possible, referring calls to attorneys, and taking messages.
Transcribe dictation using BigHand, and occasionally draft correspondence or prepare legal documents for attorney approval.
Maintain and organize case files, coordinating with file clerks or office manager as needed.
Schedule depositions, client meetings, and other appointments, with knowledge of medical malpractice litigation workflow.
In emergencies, deliver or collect documents for attorneys at courthouses, other law offices, or hospitals.
Make travel arrangements and hotel reservations for attorneys.
Maintain attorney diary system and monitor deadlines specific to medical malpractice defense cases.
Perform additional duties as required to support the legal team.
Minimum Requirements
3–5 years of defense litigation experience, with medical malpractice, casualty, or healthcare defense preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to manage a heavy workload in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication skills with clients and co-workers.
Proven track record of organization, exceptional typing skills, keen attention to detail, and ability to prioritize, multitask, and work effectively in a team.
