Lead Substation Project Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead technical design and project execution for medium to extra-high voltage substations, shaping solutions for utility, industrial, and commercial clients. You'll collaborate with the Power Delivery Substation Team to manage complex projects, mentor junior staff, and uphold high quality and safety standards. The position blends hands-on design, coordination with multiple disciplines, and client relationship work in a hybrid or in-office setting.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and quality for assigned projects
  • QA/QC of deliverables and support project reporting and proposals
  • Contribute to substation equipment specifications and design documentation
  • Perform detailed high and medium voltage substation design (one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring) and related layouts
  • Conduct substation studies and calculations (AC/DC, Lightning, Voltage drop) and select equipment
  • Provide construction support and coordinate with inter-disciplinary teams
  • Mentor and train team members; ensure adherence to client standards and QA/QC
  • Travel to sites as needed and support business needs

Key requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 7 to 10 years of post-education experience in electrical engineering for capital projects in power generation, transmission, and distribution
  • Licensed electrical engineer
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure design and cross-disciplinary fields (P&C, SCADA, telecom)
  • Experience with design, permitting, and construction management for electrical infrastructure
  • Ability to perform technical computations, interpret plans, and ensure compliance with codes and regulations
  • Proven ability to lead, coordinate, and direct subcontractors and project team members
  • Strong communication and written skills; capable of working independently with minimal oversight
  • Willingness to travel occasionally
  • Past experience with QA/QC and safety compliance
