Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic English Language Arts (ELA) teacher to support student achievement and foster a love of literacy in grades 9–12.

Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field
• Eligible for or currently hold Florida Department of Education teaching certification
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, parents, and administrators
• Experience teaching ELA courses
• Experience using data to drive instruction

Performance Responsibilities

Essential Duties

• Teach English language arts, including literature, composition, reading, and journalism, to students in grades 9–12 using Florida Department of Education standards
• Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans that challenge and support all learners
• Utilize instructional technology, models, and differentiated strategies, including accommodations for ESE and Section 504 students
• Provide whole-group, small-group, and individualized instruction to meet diverse student needs
• Monitor and evaluate student academic and social progress; maintain accurate records
• Foster critical thinking and encourage students to express original ideas
• Maintain a structured, positive classroom environment conducive to learning
• Collaborate with colleagues and support staff to address student academic, behavioral, and social needs
• Communicate regularly with parents and school counselors regarding student progress
• Supervise students during assigned duties throughout the school day
• Participate in staff meetings and school activities, including student organizations
• Administer assessments in accordance with school and district guidelines
• Model professional and nondiscriminatory practices

Additional Duties

• Adhere to the Florida Department of Education’s Principles of Professional Conduct
• Participate in school events, parent engagement activities, and extracurricular programs
• Create an engaging classroom environment through effective use of displays and instructional materials
• Perform other duties as assigned by school leadership
