Position Summary

The Communications Manager is a creative and strategic communications professional responsible for developing and managing engaging content that advances the organization's mission, brand, and audience engagement goals. This role oversees digital/social media strategy, content creation, program marketing, graphic design, website management, email marketing, and digital storytelling across multiple platforms. The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer, skilled graphic designer, and digital marketing professional with a passion for creating compelling visual and written content that drives awareness, engagement, and growth. This position requires a strong understanding of digital communications trends, social media management, branding, analytics, and multimedia content production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Digital Content Strategy & Management

  • Develop and execute comprehensive organizational communication strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Create and manage a content calendar across all digital channels.
  • Produce engaging multimedia content including graphics, videos, photography, blogs, newsletters, and social media posts.
  • Ensure consistent messaging, branding, and visual identity across all communication platforms.
  • Monitor emerging digital trends and recommend innovative communication approaches.

Social Media Management

  • Develop and implement social media strategies to increase engagement, reach, and audience growth.
  • Manage day-to-day activities across social platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), YouTube, TikTok, and others as appropriate.
  • Create platform-specific content that aligns with audience behaviors and organizational objectives.
  • Monitor social media conversations, respond to inquiries, and engage with followers in a timely manner.
  • Track and analyze social media performance metrics and provide regular reports and recommendations.

Graphic Design & Visual Communications

  • Design high-quality visual content for digital and print communications.
  • Create branded graphics, infographics, presentations, advertisements, social media assets, event materials, and marketing collateral.
  • Maintain and enforce brand standards across all visual communications.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop visually compelling materials that support organizational initiatives.
  • Manage photo and video assets, ensuring proper organization and accessibility.

Website & Digital Platform Management

  • Manage website content, updates, and user experience.
  • Optimize content for search engine visibility (SEO) and accessibility standards.
  • Coordinate website enhancements and collaborate with developers or vendors as needed.
  • Monitor website analytics and implement strategies to improve traffic and engagement.

Email Marketing & Newsletter Campaigns

  • Develop and execute email marketing campaigns.
  • Create newsletters, announcements, fundraising communications, and promotional campaigns.
  • Segment audiences and optimize email performance through testing and analytics.
  • Track campaign effectiveness and provide actionable recommendations.

Content Development & Storytelling

  • Write, edit, and proofread content for digital and print channels.
  • Conduct interviews and gather information to develop compelling stories and impact narratives.
  • Create content that supports marketing, fundraising, advocacy, recruitment, and organizational awareness efforts.
  • Ensure all content adheres to organizational messaging, tone, and style guidelines.

Analytics & Reporting

  • Monitor digital communications performance using analytics tools.
  • Generate monthly and quarterly reports on website traffic, social media engagement, email performance, and campaign effectiveness.
  • Use data-driven insights to refine communication strategies and improve outcomes.

Collaboration & Project Management

  • Collaborate with leadership, program staff, vendors, and external partners on communication initiatives.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Coordinate photography, videography, and creative projects as needed.
  • Support special events through promotional campaigns and content development.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Graphic Design, Digital Media, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in communications, marketing, digital media, or related roles.
  • Demonstrated experience managing organizational social media accounts and digital communication strategies.
  • Experience creating and implementing successful digital marketing campaigns.

Graphic Design Qualifications

  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including:
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Illustrator (preferred)
  • Adobe InDesign
  • Adobe Express
  • Experience creating digital and print-ready designs.
  • Strong understanding of typography, color theory, layout, branding, and visual storytelling.
  • Ability to develop graphics, infographics, social media assets, presentations, and marketing materials.
  • Experience with Canva Pro and other digital design platforms.
  • Portfolio demonstrating professional graphic design and content creation work required.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with social media management platforms (Hootsuite).
  • Experience with content management systems (WordPress preferred).
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices and Google Analytics.
  • Experience with email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact.
  • Basic video editing skills using Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, CapCut, Canva, or equivalent.
  • Photography and photo-editing experience.

  • Experience managing paid digital advertising campaigns.
  • Knowledge of fundraising and donor communications.
  • Experience with CRM systems and marketing automation platforms.
  • Video production and motion graphics experience.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted content creation tools and digital marketing technologies.

Salary Range

$45,000 - 50,000 annually

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
