Mechanical Project Manager (HVAC)

In this role you lead HVAC-focused mechanical projects from pre-construction to commissioning, blending engineering expertise with strong project management. You'll work with cross-functional teams to deliver code-compliant, on-time, on-budget HVAC solutions, while maintaining client relationships and guiding field activities. This position emphasizes design-to-construction execution, collaboration, and continuous improvement in a dynamic, mostly remote setting along Colorado's Front Range.
Responsibilities- Manage HVAC projects through all phases: pre-construction, design development, construction documentation, bidding, construction administration, commissioning
- Produce and review mechanical design and construction documents for code compliance and alignment with project specs
- Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, electrical/MEP disciplines, contractors, and owner reps to resolve issues
- Develop project schedules, manage budgets, track performance, and report status to clients and leadership
- Prepare and review HVAC load calculations, equipment selections, system schematics, and control strategies; oversee energy modeling as required
- Lead constructability reviews and provide cost input during pre-construction to optimize design and value engineering
- Manage submittals, RFIs, change orders, site observations, punch lists; ensure timely resolution of field issues and QA
- Mentor and supervise junior engineers and designers; coordinate external consultants and specialty contractors
- Ensure adherence to safety, sustainability, and QA processes; support commissioning and system start-up
- Maintain proactive client communication and pursue opportunities for additional work
- 4+ years of HVAC design and project management experience
- Bachelor level mechanical engineering; PE preferred; EIT/FE acceptable if PE not held
- Proficiency with AutoCAD; experience with Revit MEP, BIM workflows, and CD production
- Hands-on HVAC load calculations, equipment selection, duct/piping design, and controls integration
- Familiarity with energy modeling tools and performance analysis
- Experience in pre-construction services, cost estimating, constructability reviews, and value engineering
- Strong project management skills: scheduling, budgeting, contract administration, risk management
- Excellent communication, leadership, and client-facing abilities
