Position Summary

The Director of Finance is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all financial operations, systems, and compliance for Junior Achievement of Central Florida. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role serves as a strategic advisor and operational leader, ensuring the organization’s financial sustainability and long-term growth.

The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented finance professional with strong nonprofit experience, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to lead financial strategy, reporting, and process improvement across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Planning & Strategy

  • Lead the annual budgeting and financial forecasting processes in collaboration with department leaders
  • Manage cash flow planning to support financial sustainability and effective resource allocation
  • Serve as a strategic financial advisor to the CEO, leadership team, and Finance Committee

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare and deliver accurate weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership, board members, and external stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations
  • Oversee audit preparation, manage auditor relationships, and implement post-audit recommendations
  • Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit best practices

Accounting Operations

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger
  • Ensure timely reconciliations and monthly close processes
  • Manage vendor contracts, banking relationships, and treasury operations
  • Supervise and optimize financial systems and tools (e.g., QuickBooks, Monday.com) to ensure accuracy and efficiency

Cross-Functional Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Partner with department leaders to monitor budgets, track expenditures, and provide actionable financial insights
  • Lead finance-related process improvement and change management initiatives
  • Develop, document, and maintain financial policies and procedures
  • Promote accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement across financial operations

Employee Lifecycle & Operations Support

  • Maintain personnel records and oversee offboarding processes
  • Manage compliance documentation and reporting
  • Ensure CRM financial records are accurate and reconciled with QuickBooks and partnership data

Skills & Attributes for Success

  • Strong financial strategy development and execution skills
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling expertise
  • Exceptional technical proficiency and ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Expertise in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Monday.com preferred
  • Highly organized with strong analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to identify risks or irregularities
  • Adaptability to changing organizational needs

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required)
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive finance experience, preferably within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
  • Demonstrated experience managing audits, compliance, and financial reporting in a nonprofit environment
